Position Summary

Purpose of Job / Role Intent:

  • Maintain accountability for best practice preparation (until gate 4) of assigned medium and large projects on budget and on time in line with the Guaranteed Project Delivery System (GPDS)
  • Liaise with business, operations and other stakeholders to facilitate the development of ideas into viable capital project solutions
  • Identify and integrate the required service offerings across all Group Technology Functions and departments to ensure the effective development of an aligned project guarantee
  • Understand the complexities and highlight the risk within execution strategies
  • Manage dedicated resources
  • Define portfolio management plan and monitor risk profiles
  • Interpret policy and strategy to give direction to assigned project managers
  • Serve as central point of accountability and communication on project preparation topics of dedicated project portfolio to VP Project Preparation

1. Strategy and policy

  • Support setting, prioritising and aligning the work agenda with OME’s
  • Support development and execution of strategy to prepare projects
  • Set portfolio goals
  • Understand group strategic direction in terms of Rolling Capital Plan and Strategic Focus Areas for portfolio of projects earmarked for execution
  • Cost effectiveness of execution of project preparation strategy
  • Success-rate of projects during preparation phase
2. Planning and People

  • Develop strategic front-end loading plan for assigned portfolio that prioritizes necessary projects, defines, requests and allocates resources while ensuring business strategy link
  • Ensure the right profile of Resources on team that will be creative during the FEL phase
  • Ensure strong team building and alignment on assigned projects
  • Facilitate change and development of the CP organization
  • Line supervision of assigned project execution staff and development and mentoring of direct reports
  • Level of employee motivation and satisfaction
  • Performance of direct reports and quality of internal capabilities
  • Utilization of existing skills and resources
3. Performance management

  • Set, monitor, manage and escalate deliverables and milestones from direct reports ensuring alignment with project plans and quality standards
  • Monitor and supervise adherence to budget, schedule, quality, scope, and safety requirements of direct reports
  • Ensure development of an aligned project guarantee by identifying and integrating the efforts of the relevant Group Technology Departments in-line with the GPDS
  • Identify and implement improvement practices
  • Give guidance on selected projects in support of project management COE
  • Ensure proper handover for projects passing G4
  • Adherence to financial targets
  • Predictability and timeliness of project preparation activities
  • Compliance with internal standards
  • Level of first time right measure
  • Fulfillment of front-end-loading targets
4. Governance and risk management

  • Pre-approve appropriate deliverables for relevant committees
  • Oversee compliance with laws and regulations
  • Take lead on identification of critical risks and mitigation strategies in assigned portfolio
  • Lead selected project steering committees
  • Take responsibility to meet HSE objectives and targets
  • Lead Group Technology position in project steering committees
  • Index of HSE performance
  • Index of legal compliance
  • Corrective actions based on events
5. External relations and reporting

  • Support Project manager in interaction with internal and external parties ensuring needs and intends from Business/Operations and advice/recommendations from E&PS and R&T are appropriately included
  • Provide advice, coaching, mentoring, counsel and visibility to assigned VP on assigned project portfolio
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Report on portfolio performance
  • Quality and timeliness of reports/status updates provided to GM Project preparation
  • Injury rate of contractors (as applicable < gate 4)
  • Contractor performance vs. contract
  • Quality of EPC contractors' work
Planning / Organising / Integrating

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Experience required

BEng / BSc Eng

16 years’ experience in relevant technical area

As minimum had the opportunity to deliver a T1/T2 project from Gate2 (Concept phase) to Gate6(BO) or managed a

portfolio of projects through all stages of the BD&I process
